Our Adoption Story

When we got married, adoption was something we had discussed wanting to do, but it was always something we said we’d look into “someday.” After completing cancer treatments, it is unclear at this point whether or not we will be able to have more biological children in the future. Due to this, and to ongoing preventative medication which is also preventing pregnancy, we want to pursue adoption now to grow our family. We want our son to have siblings and would be honored to be chosen by a birth mother to raise her child in our home.

As we have considered and pursued adoption, we have been more and more in awe of how God has adopted us into His family, and grafted us in as His own children. We are co-heirs with Christ! Adoption is a beautiful picture of our eternal reality, and we are excited to mirror that in our own home.

Biblical View of Adoption

The Bible speaks positively of adoption. Esther was adopted by her cousin Mordecai, and interceded for her people who were facing death. Most notably, Jesus was “adopted” by Joseph, who raised Him as his own son, even though Jesus did not have a biological connection to him.

Many times, when the Bible speaks of God’s promises being for Gentiles (non-Jewish people), as well as His chosen people of Israel, adoption is used as a metaphor. Spiritual adoption is a choice and is done out of the love of our Father. Anyone who believes in Christ is adopted into God’s family and receives the same inheritance as Jesus himself. Similarly, physical adoption is a choice. It is done out of love for children and their biological parents, and once adopted, the child will receive all of the same love, rights, and privileges as any biological child in the family.
